Pat Perry began the meeting at 3:45 p.m. with an apology for his late arrival. The agenda, which included seven items, was reviewed. The following is a summary by topic.

1. Secondary Enrollment. A report, developed by Robin Blakley and presented at the last Board meeting was reviewed. It was noted that theoretical recommendations could call for a 1.0 reduction at the middle school and a 1.6 reduction at the High School. It was noted by the Superintendent that the Board of Education, after receiving this report, had indicated an interest in keeping the current number of sections allocated at the secondary schools. This could translate into changes or reduction of assignment and/or reallocation of sections to various departments. But the overall number of sections in the secondary program should at this time, given Board direction, stay the same for the 2006-07 school year.

On February 9th a task group that has been looking at declining enrollment at the secondary level, will update the joint 6-12th grade faculty of its work over the last few months. Given this information, two secondary schools may consider next steps they would like to be involved in related to future staffing for their schools.

2. Sage Institute Update. The Board of Education will receive an update on Sage Institute, the consulting firm that assisted the District in looking at two properties, David Avenue and Lighthouse School, for possible alternative use it the future.

The District has requested and received proposals of these two properties, and these reports have been forwarded to the Board. Utilizing this information, administration will ask the Board of Education for direction related to future activities on these two properties at the February 2nd Board meeting.

3. Visitation to Washington Union School District. As a follow-up to a December 8th Board discussion related to elementary reconfiguration, two Board members requested an opportunity to visit the Washington Union School District. These two Board members, along with faculty and parents from our School District, journeyed to Toro Park Elementary School and Washington Union Elementary School on January 20th.

During the visitation, the team had the opportunity to ask questions of principals, faculty, staff and parents and visit classrooms. Individuals representing school sites were Paula Crivello and Jane Leatham from Forest Grove; and Mary and John Hiserman from Robert Down. If you have questions related to the visitations, please see these individuals.

4, 5, 6. December 8th Board Meeting Minutes, January 19th Board Meeting Agenda, January 26th Board Meeting Agenda were reviewed and no questions were asked on these items.

7. Future Committee Meetings. March 8th was established as the next Communications Committee meeting. Two items were presented for this agenda. They are as follows:

• Budget calendar for the 2006-07 school year
• Communication Committee’s members report related to prior discussions on school site budget allocation.
