student's math teacher and I am looking
forward to an extremely rewarding school year. You are
probably wondering what is in store for your student
mathematically, so let me explain to you what to expect.
Math Education Goals. The top priority is to ensure that all students have a firm conceptual understanding that supports mastery of skills. Students will learn through a balanced approach that emphasizes both skills and deep understanding. We will cover the standards (especially the key ones) as found in the Mathematics Framework. The next priority is to prepare all students to take math college preparatory courses in high school which include Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II. This means raising standards at the middle school level so that all students will be preparing to attend college. For more info, see www.ucop.edu/a-gGuide. |
