The Board of Education of the Pacific Grove Unified School District held a joint meeting with the City Council of Pacific Grove on January 24, 2002 at the City of Pacific Grove Recreation Department at 515 Junipero Avenue, Pacific Grove.
1. Call to order: 6:00 pm

2. Public Comment: Audience introduced themselves.
3. Discussion of Items of Mutual Concern:
a. Lighthouse Avenue School Property: Some history of the property and financial support from a foundation was discussed; the possibility of a mutual project with the potential help from Sacramento and foundation support could be in this property's future. Further discussion will take place.
b. Update on Senior and Affordable Housing: The current low-income senior housing project for 53 units near the Meals on Wheels property was discussed. If finances work out project could start in the fall. Other projects the City is involved in include Voluntary Rent Guidelines for conflicts, Rental Assistance Program, Ongoing Rehabilitation, Living Residency restrictions, etc.
c. Traffic Congestion and Control around Schools: School zone safety is the number one priority with the Pacific Grove Police Department. Traffic is somewhat better at the middle school and high school, elementary schools still working on improvement. Forest Grove has a parent volunteer that has helped tremendously with the delivery of students in the morning. The Police Department is continuing to review traffic around the schools and is open to suggestions for all school sites. Cal Trans has released plans for a signal at the corner of Sunset and Forest Avenue a promising solution to this intersection. The City is working on a "Drive Friendly Campaign" and hopes to enlist the school district with their support more information to come in the future.
d. Update on District's Measure A Projects: Patrick Perry and Robin Blakley discussed the Measure A projects, both what has been accomplished and the future of the project. The City continues to support the District in this important project.
e. Update on Youth Center and Youth Programming: John Miller, Director summarized the Youth Center history and an overview of current services available to our youth.
f. Monterey Symphony: The City asked for some lead-time when large events are planned in district facilities, especially in regards to impact on neighborhood parking and if possible in the future, events that involve the City and District in any way be brought to the attention of the City, especially for safety reasons, etc. John Miller is the City's Special Project Director.
