Minutes of the Meeting of March 24, 2005
The Board of Education of the Pacific Grove Unified School District held a meeting on March 24, 2005 at Pacific Grove High School.
I. OPEN BUSINESS

III. GENERAL DISCUSSION REGARDING DISTRICT LONG RANGE PLAN
Patrick Perry and Linda Williams reviewed the status of the Districts Long Range plan. An annotated plan along with a memorandum related to the Essential Program Report were reviewed. The Board requested additional information related to Algebra 1 course content along with the proposed support class.

Transitioning from 5th to Middle School, 8th to High School has been articulated among elementary, middle, and high school math teachers
Mastery Survey Test has been developed for 5th and 8th graders
Steps leading to mastery of Basic Facts in 5th Grade have been defined
Alignment of MS and HS Algebra and Geometry courses has occurred with similar mid-terms and final tests developed
Writing
Components of a Quality K-12 Writing Program has been established by Writing Learning community.
Pros and cons of writing programs and processes have been reviewed
Introduction of Scott Purdy writing process to cohort of K-12 teachers
Science
Development of science equipment and materials by HS and MS science teachers
Foreign Language
Outline developed for Spanish at Middle School by Kelly Terry and Kathy Buller
