QUARTER & SEMESTER GRADES are based on assignments and exams. Teachers will assign points accordingly. Here is the breakdown of percentages:
| Assignments: | 50% |
| Exams: | 50% |
| TOTAL: | 100% |
The following scale will be used to determine report card grades:
| 90 - 100% | A |
| 80 - 89% | B |
| 70 - 79% | C |
| 60 - 69% | D |
| 0 - 59% | F |
ASSIGNMENT POINTS consist
of study skills assignments, classwork, and homework completion. Very little, if any, homework will be assigned.
STUDY SKILLS ASSIGNMENTS include, but are not limited to, daily participation, daily materials check, binder checks, calendar checks, grade checks, and math journal/notebook checks.
CLASSWORK should emphasize the attainment of conceptual understanding through the use of multiple representations to include tables, graphs, manipulatives, as well as group work and the discovery approach. In other words, deeper understanding plus mastery of basic facts is the hoped for result.
HOMEWORK CHECKS should be done daily. Students are to attempt ALL problems at home before presenting them to the teacher for help.
ASSIGNMENT RUBRIC is decided by the teacher, however, students MUST SHOW WORK in order to receive full credit.
EXAM POINTS consist of quizzes, with the bulk of the exam grade coming from the Mastery Quizzes.
MASTERY QUIZZES
are generally below grade level or are a fundamental skill. They
are given every quarter and require an A or A- to pass. Students
are allowed to re-take as many times as necessary in order to
pass. Therefore, students MUST SHOW WORK & NO CALCULATOR.
TIMELINES will follow the Algebra Yearlong Plan.
ALGEBRA SUPPORT POLICY Students who earn a "C" in Math-7 may go into Algebra if they take Algebra Support. If they do not take Algebra Support (and they cannot substitute Math Lab or tutors for Algebra Support), then they are to enroll in Math-8.
Algebra Support is a semester class, and students may not exit before the semester ends. After the first semester, if the student has earned at least a B- in Algebra 1, then he/she may exit Algebra Support at that time.
At the end of any given quarter, students earning a D or F in Algebra will enroll in Algebra Support or transfer into Math-8.
